New Moon trailer premieres Friday. The new New Moon trailer premieres in front of the new release Bandslam which will open in theaters on August 14th, 2009. The idea to put the brand new New Moon trailer in front of another film is an obvious attempt to draw more audience members to a movie that might end up struggling to bring in the viewers. It's not a bad idea, and the brand new New Moon trailer is something that fans have been hotly anticipating. It's a reminder of the ideas that George Lucas used to stir up interest for Star Wars: Episode One, and that he placed the first Star Wars trailer in front of a few other films and let the world know it would be happening. The premiere of the New Moon trailer is also just a calculation being carried about by a film studio. Summit Entertainment is the studio behind both The Twilight Saga: New Moon and Bandslam, and this just seems like an easy way to link the two films in theaters. While it's unknown how Bandslam will fare when it is released, everyone knows that The Twilight Saga: New Moon is a very hot ticket, and that so many people are anticipating its release that they might just do anything to get the first glimpse at a brand new New Moon trailer. That's what everyone involved is hoping for, and those fans willing to spend the money to go see Bandslam when it debuts on August 14th will be among the first fans to glimpse the new New Moon trailer. The Twilight Saga: New Moon is the second film in the series, which looks to be heading toward a total of four theatrical releases in the set before they are done. The first film did pretty well, but the buzz that has built up since then, along with the books still surviving on the best sellers lists around the country, it is anticipated that the second film could possibly do even better in theaters. It's coming with some high expectations, but The Twilight Saga: New Moon is going to be one of those films where it is inexpensive to produce, and the profits will come pretty quickly from distributors. In regard to Bandslam, it is one of those films that have an independent feel, but which could actually be pretty good. It's not expected to bring in a lot of box office money against the other big money pictures coming out the same night, and that could be a big reason why this Twilight promotion is taking place. Nobody can blame Summit Entertainment for trying to take advantage of this opportunity, and it is certainly going to help the box office totals for Bandslam. Sure, the new New Moon trailer will probably hit YouTube and other internet sites the same night, but it won't be the same as experiencing the new New Moon trailer on the big screen.Source: EW PopWatch
I wasn't going to initially post this because:1. I don't have stock in Fandango, so why post it.2. I don't give a shit. But that all changed when I read the following line in this press release for New Moon breaking sales records for Fandango - "52% of survey respondents say they dream about vampires."That means over half of the people who bought tickets for New Moon's Thursday night showing dream about vampires. This country has truly become a nation of idiots. Here's the press release:
'New Moon' Strikes Down 'Dark Knight', 'Harry Potter' and 'Star Wars' to Become the #1 Advance Ticket-Seller in Fandango History
With five more days before its November 20 release date, New Moon has already leaped over previous record-holders to become the top-selling pre-release title in Fandango's ten-year history. The new record for Fandango's fastest-selling film was set on Saturday night, November 14, shortly after 8:00 p.m.
The Top 5 Advance Ticket-Sellers on Fandango (as of November 15, 2009) are now as follows:
1. New Moon (2009)
2. Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)
3. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)
4. The Dark Knight (2008)
5. Twilight (2008)
The latest chapter of The Twilight Saga is currently wolfing down 86% of weekly ticket sales on Fandango, the nation's leading movie ticketing destination.
Thousands of Thursday night midnight showtimes for New Moon are already sold out across the country, from Albany, Georgia to Yuba City, California. Yet New Moon tickets continue to be available. To meet the fan demand, the nation's top theater owners are regularly posting brand new showtimes on additional screens.
"For many fans, it's clearly the year's most anticipated film event," says Fandango Chief Operating Officer Rick Butler. "Ever since tickets went on sale on August 31, it's been among our top five weekly ticket-sellers, as New Moon has a strong pull on audiences. We're seeing a higher-than-usual number of tickets per transaction for this film, suggesting that moviegoers will show up en masse at theaters this weekend with their friends and family."
Here are some fun facts from a recent Fandango survey of more than 2,000 New Moon ticket-buyers:
-- 98% say the action in New Moon looks better than the action in
Twilight.
-- 72% plan to see the movie with a group of three friends or more.
-- 52% of survey respondents say they dream about vampires.
-- 22% are mothers and daughters planning to see New Moon together.
-- 10% plan to show up at the theater in costume, dressed as characters
from the saga.
Of course, will New Moon be worth the wait? Look for my review this Thursday at midnight. (Damn embargo) Only then will you know if it's worth seeing.
Filed at 12:19 p.m. ET LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Vampires and werewolves have vanquished a dark knight. "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" took in $72.7 million in its first day to break the single day domestic box office record previously held by "The Dark Knight," which had a $67.2 million opening day last year. The Friday haul for the "Twilight" sequel includes a record $26.3 million from midnight screenings alone. If "New Moon" maintains its pace, it might have a shot at the all-time best opening weekend record of $158.4 million, also held by "The Dark Knight." "New Moon" continues the story of teen romance between a girl and a vampire (Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson), with the sequel adding a love triangle with a teen werewolf (Taylor Lautner).
